The California State Oriental Medical Association or CSOMA is a professional organization representing some of the 5,000+ Acupuncturists currently licensed to practice acupuncture and oriental medicine in California. Licensed Acupuncturists in California are among the best-trained outside of Asia, with current graduation requirements being roughly 3,000 hours over four academic years, including 1,000 hours of supervised clinical instruction. Licensing requires passing a rigorous state-administered examination of knowledge and skills in acupuncture, herbs, oriental massage, exercise, and breathing techniques.

American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (AAMA) promotes the integration of concepts from traditional and modern forms of acupuncture with Western medical training and thereby synthesize a more comprehensive approach to health care.
